"Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" ~ Isaiah 41:10
Dog Training with Abby’s Helping Hands
At Abby’s Helping Hands, our dog training program is designed to help you and your dog truly work together — not against each other. Every dog has the potential to be a calm, confident, and cooperative companion, and our job is to help unlock that potential through clear communication, gentle structure, and trust.
We believe that a well-trained dog isn’t just easier to live with — it’s a dog who has more access to life. When your dog can listen, respond, and feel comfortable in different settings, they get to safely enjoy more freedom, exercise, and fun experiences by your side.
Our training is based on positive reinforcement, so your dog learns through encouragement and rewards — never fear or punishment. This builds trust, confidence, and genuine understanding between you and your pup, creating lasting habits that feel good for both of you.
🔹 Basic Manner Work
Good manners are the foundation of a happy home. We teach your dog how to behave politely in real-life situations so they can be part of your daily routines with ease and confidence.
You’ll see progress in:
Sitting and waiting patiently at doors or during meals
Calm greetings with guests and new people
“Leave it,” “Drop it,” and “Stay” in everyday use
Learning when to settle and relax — an often-overlooked but essential skill
With reliable manners, your dog becomes easier to bring places, whether it’s family visits, cafés, or community walks.
🔹 Leash Manners
Walking your dog should be enjoyable, not stressful. We focus on teaching your dog to walk with you — not pull against you.
This includes:
Loose-leash walking and “heel” skills
Focusing on you, even around distractions
Passing other dogs, bikes, and people calmly
Listening to cues and keeping pace
Better leash manners mean better access to regular exercise — something every dog needs for their physical and mental health. When you both feel confident on the leash, you’ll get outside more often, go farther, and have more positive experiences together.
🔹 Safety Skills Practice
Safety is freedom. A dog who can be trusted to respond to safety cues gains more opportunities to explore and play without risk.
We teach:
Reliable recall (“Come”) from a distance or distraction
“Wait” or “Stop” for roads, doors, or new environments
Calm behavior around traffic, other animals, and people
Controlled greetings and exits from vehicles or buildings
These skills help ensure your dog can enjoy life safely, giving you peace of mind and your dog the confidence to experience more of the world responsibly.
🔹 Energy Management & Anxiety Coping Skills
A tired dog isn’t always a happy dog — but a balanced dog is. We help your pup learn how to manage excitement, settle down when needed, and handle stressful moments with confidence.
Our approach includes:
Structured play and enrichment that use up energy productively
Teaching relaxation and impulse control (“Go to place,” calm focus cues)
Techniques to reduce anxiety or overstimulation (thunder, visitors, separation)
Creating routines that promote emotional stability and calm
When dogs learn to regulate their own energy and emotions, they become easier to handle, safer to take places, and more enjoyable companions in all settings.
🌟 Why Training Matters
Training isn’t just about obedience — it’s about access and freedom. A trained dog can join you on more adventures, enjoy regular walks, visit public places, and interact confidently with other dogs and people. It means no more pulling, barking, or tension — just partnership.
When your dog works with you instead of against you, everyday life becomes smoother and more rewarding. You’ll both gain confidence, connection, and joy in the process.
💬 How We Work
We begin with a behavior, natural instincts, and lifestyle assessment to understand your dog’s personality, breed needs, and your goals.
Together, we build a customized training plan that fits your routine and your dog’s temperament.
Sessions use positive motivation, clear cues, and step-by-step goals.
Frequent playtime breaks, encouraging a healthy and exciting relationship with your training and commands!
You’ll receive at-home guidance so you can keep progress going between sessions. With Sheets and Step - By - Step instructions!
We offer follow-ups and ongoing support to keep both you and your dog moving forward confidently.
If we reach a challange that we can't face alone, we will share resources, information, and other trainers to support you and your pup!
